Jimmy Yuill, born James Evander Munro Yuill on 13 February 1956 in Golspie, Scotland, is a versatile Scottish actor whose career spans over four decades of stage, screen, and musical composition. His early work began in the late 1970s with television appearances such as Tom Stewart in The Mackinnons (1977) and a role in the film A Sense of Freedom (1977), establishing his presence in British drama. He quickly became a valued member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, where his classical training honed his technique and prepared him for a later affiliation with Kenneth Branagh’s Renaissance Theatre Company. Yuill’s collaboration with Branagh proved especially fruitful, resulting in memorable film roles including Jamy in Henry V (1989), the Friar in Much Ado About Nothing (1993), and a part in All Is True (2018) as Edward Woolmer. In addition to acting, he contributed as a music composer for A Midwinter’s Tale and Swan Song, showcasing his artistic range beyond performance.
