McDorman is most renowned for his intriguing performance in the 2014 film, American Sniper, and for his starring roles on various television shows such as CBS's Limitless (2015–2016) and the compelling Disney+ historical drama, The Right Stuff, where he played Alan Shepard. Notably, he has successfully secured significant roles in other TV series like ABC Family's comedy-drama, Greek (2007–2011), Showtime's Shameless (2014), CBS sitcom Murphy Brown (2018), FX's horrifying yet captivating What We Do in the Shadows (2019), and in the forthcoming Peacock's sci-fi comedy-drama series Mrs. Davis (2023).

Born in Dallas, Texas, Jake McDorman was the beloved son of Deborah Gale and John Allen McDorman III.
