Ann Harada is an American actress and singer whose career has spanned more than three decades, beginning with her Equity card in 1987 and continuing to the present day. Born Ann Chiemi Harada on February 3, 1964 in Honolulu, Hawaii, she discovered her passion for performance at Punahou School and honed her craft at Brown University before moving to New York City to work with producer Suzanne Schwartz. Her early work included performances with the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus and a role in the Broadway production of M. Butterfly, establishing her as a versatile talent capable of both dramatic and musical work. Harada’s breakthrough came when she originated the role of Christmas Eve in the critically acclaimed musical Avenue Q, first at the Vineyard Theatre in 2003 and then on Broadway, where she earned praise for her “full‑throated ballad” delivery and became the only performer to play the role in both the Broadway and West End productions. In addition to her iconic Broadway work, she has appeared in a variety of regional productions, such as Falsettoland (1998) and Les Misérables (2007), showcasing her adaptability across genres and character types.
