Jack Lowden: Movies & Box Office

Jack Andrew Lowden is a highly recognized Scottish actor, born on 2 June 1990 in Chelmsford, Essex. Growing up in the Scottish village of Oxton, Lowden pursued acting from a young age, attending classes at the Scottish Youth Theatre in Edinburgh and later earning a BA in acting from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He began his acting career on stage, garnering critical success for his starring role as Eric Liddell in the 2012 play Chariots of Fire in London. Lowden's talent and profound performances eventually led him to win an Olivier Award and the Ian Charleson Award for his role as Oswald in Richard Eyre's 2013 adaptation of Ibsen's Ghosts.

In the subsequent years, Lowden began to carve out a name for himself in the world of onscreen acting. His portrayal of Nikolai Rostov in the 2016 BBC miniseries War & Peace served as his first major international onscreen success. Consequently, he earned starring roles in feature films, one of the notable ones being his role as the golfing legend Tommy Morris in Tommy's Honour (2016). His role in the miniseries The Long Song, set in 19th-century Jamaica, and his leading role in the Scottish Highlands thriller Calibre (2018) also garnered critical acclaim, securing Lowden the British Academy Scotland Award for Best Film Actor. He continued to star in a range of roles from playing an RAF fighter-pilot in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk (2017) to Zak 'Zodiac' Bevis in the 2019 comedy-drama WWE film Fighting with My Family. Recently, Lowden played a role in the 2022 Apple TV series Slow Horses, leading to a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his outstanding performance.
