Gemma Jones, born Jennifer Jones on 4 December 1942, is a celebrated English actress with a career spanning nearly six decades. Her extensive work encompasses both stage and screen, making her a recognisable face in British and global cinema. Some of her most notable film appearances include 'Sense and Sensibility' (1995), the 'Harry Potter' series (2002–2011), the 'Bridget Jones' series (2001–2016), 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' (2010), and 'Ammonite' (2020). For her role in the BBC television film 'Marvellous' (2014), Jones won the 2015 BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her television roles are equally impressive, featuring in 'Rainbow City' (1967), 'The Duchess of Duke Street' (1976–1977), 'Trial & Retribution' (2003–2008), and 'Gentleman Jack' (2019).

Born in Marylebone, London, she is the daughter of Irene (née Isaac) and Harold 'Griffith' Jones, and sister to Nicholas Jones who is also an actor. Jones began her career in theatrical performances throughout the 1960s and 1970s with regional theatres and companies such as the Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, and the Little Theatre in Bristol. She won the gold medal while studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, establishing a prolific career both in regional and national theatre productions as well as in British television and international films.
