Frances Barber (born as Frances Brookes) is a renowned English actress who ventured into her acting career in 1979 and is still active presently. Born on 13th May 1958, she received Olivier Award nominations for her exceptional performances in the plays Camille (1985), and Uncle Vanya (1997). Elite in her craft, Barber made notable appearances in films like Prick Up Your Ears (1987), Sammy and Rosie Get Laid (1987), and Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (2017), often collaborating with formidable actor Gary Oldman. A versatile actress, she was also a recurring figure in television, with credits in The Street (2009), Doctor Who (2011), Silk (2012–2014), and Whitstable Pearl (2021–2022).

Barber was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, where she attended the Wolverhampton Municipal Grammar School before studying drama at the University College of North Wales in Bangor, contemporarily with director Danny Boyle, who was her boyfriend. She left a remarkable footprint in the musical world as well, appearing in the Pet Shop Boys' musical Closer to Heaven in 2001. She has also performed in Aladdin with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Ian McKellen.
