David Gordon Green: Movies, Awards & Box Office

David Gordon Green (born April 9, 1975) is an acclaimed American filmmaker who began his career in 1997. He became well-known with the independent film George Washington (2000), which he wrote and directed. Green is renowned for the diversity of his films, ranging from dramas such as All the Real Girls (2003) and Snow Angels (2007), to the thriller Undertow (2004). Green dabbled in Hollywood studio comedies, directing Pineapple Express (2008), Your Highness and The Sitter (2011), before briefly returning to his dramatic roots with independent films _Prince Avalanche (2013), Joe (2013), and Manglehorn (2014). He then returned to studio films, most notably directing a lauded trilogy of slasher films in the Halloween franchise, as well as The Exorcist: Believer (2023). He has also directed numerous episodes of popular comedy series including Eastbound & Down (2009–2013), Red Oaks (2014–17), Vice Principals (2016–17), and The Righteous Gemstones (2019–present).

Green was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Richardson, Texas. His mother, Jean Ann, was a Lamaze instructor, and his father, Hubert Gordon Green Jr., was a medical school dean. His early interest in storytelling led him to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he studied film directing. As a student, Green made the two short films, Pleasant Grove and Physical Pinball, laying the groundwork for his feature film debut, George Washington. Dipping his toes in every genre from drama to comedy, thriller to horror, Green's versatile filmography reflects his unique aptitude for storytelling.
