Raised in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, she discovered her passion for performance early, acting in church productions and school plays before studying theatre at Los Angeles City College. After college she broke into the industry through national commercials for Foster Grant sunglasses and TWA, which led to guest spots on series such as Room 222 and Love, American Style. Her film breakthrough came with George Lucas’s cult classic American Graffiti (1973), where she played Laurie Henderson, a role that garnered a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
