Bille August RD (born on 9 November 1948) is a renowned Danish director, screenwriter, and cinematographer known for his remarkable work in both film and television. Among his most extraordinary achievements is winning the Palme d'Or, Academy Award, and Golden Globe Award for his outstanding 1987 film Pelle the Conqueror. He stands out as one of the only ten directors to bag the Palme d'Or twice, clinching the award yet again in 1992 for The Best Intentions, based on the autobiographical script by Ingmar Bergman.

His esteemed filmography brims with critically acclaimed works like The House of the Spirits, Smilla's Sense of Snow, Les Misérables, Night Train to Lisbon, Silent Heart, The Chinese Widow, and A Fortunate Man. His work has fetched him five Robert Awards (including Best Film and Best Director), and three Bodil Awards for Best Danish Film. He is also honored as a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. Beyond his national success, August has international influence. He took a position as Tianpeng Media's Art Director, committed to produce Chinese films. Moreover, he accepted the invitation from the Hangzhou government to serve as a 'culture consultant' for the city.
