Ben Rosenfield is an American actor and musician whose career has spanned film, television, and stage since the early 2010s. Raised in Montclair, New Jersey, he grew up in a creatively charged household; his father Stephen Rosenfield founded the American Comedy Institute and his mother Kate Redway Rosenfield works as an actress and improv teacher. Rosenfield attended Glenfield Middle School, where he first tackled a lead role as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and later graduated from Montclair High School in 2010. He is of Jewish heritage with ancestry that traces back to Ukraine, Romania, Denmark, and Scotland, and he has spoken about a once‑more religious upbringing despite a largely atheistic family environment. His younger brother Nate also shares the family’s artistic inclinations. Rosenfield made his professional debut off‑Broadway in 2011 as Max in Through a Glass Darkly alongside Carey Mulligan, and quickly moved into film with his breakout as the teenage Tim Buckley in Greetings from Tim Buckley (2012). He gained wider recognition as Willie Thompson on HBO’s critically acclaimed Boardwalk Empire, appearing in seasons four and five and earning a promotion to series regular. Subsequent film work includes lead roles in Affluenza (2014) and 6 Years (2016), as well as supporting turns in Song One, Indignation, and Mickey and the Bear. On television he portrayed Sam Colby in the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks and John Schlafly in Hulu’s Mrs. America, a performance that contributed to the show’s ten‑nomination Emmy run. Rosenfield has continued to hone his stage craft with productions such as The Nether, Love, Love, Love, and the upcoming The Ally at The Public Theater. Parallel to his acting, he releases music under his own name, issuing the EP Field (2014) and the full‑length album dum die (2017); tracks from his catalog have been featured in film scores, evidencing his dual artistic identity.
