Bashar Mounzer Rahal, known professionally as Bashar Rahal, was born on 20 October 1974 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to a Lebanese father, Mounzer Rahal, and a Bulgarian mother, Mariana Rahal, giving him a multicultural heritage that later influenced his artistic outlook. At the age of six his family relocated to Bulgaria, where he began performing in televised sketches at twelve and joined the professional theater troupe Tears and Laughs a year later, appearing in over fifteen stage productions and attending international festivals in Avignon and Thun. His first significant screen role came in 1989 with the award‑winning Bulgarian film Ivan and Alexandra, followed by Bad Boy in 1992, marking the start of a prolific early career. After earning a master’s degree in Performing Arts from the National Academy of Theater and Film Arts under professor Stefan Danailov, Bashar secured a permanent position at the National Youth Theater and contributed to more than 25 TV comedy shows, most notably the seminal variety program It Can't Be, where he served as creator, lead actor, writer, producer, and occasional director for seven seasons. In 1997 he co‑hosted Bulgaria’s first night‑time show and joined the celebrated morning program It Has Began, meeting his future wife Kalina on set; the same year he appeared in Italian productions In Fondo Al Cuore and the miniseries Racket. Pursuing broader horizons, he emigrated to the United States in 1999, settling first in San Diego and later Los Angeles, where he took roles in Hollywood films such as Bridge of Dragons alongside Dolph Lundgren, Operation Delta Force 4: Deep Fault, and City of Fear with Gary Daniels. His U.S. television credits include a guest spot on the Emmy‑winning series Arrested Development, a supporting turn as Hasdrubal in the BBC drama Hannibal, and a part in War, Inc. featuring Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei and Joan Cusack. Returning to his roots, he appeared in the fifth season of the Bulgarian series Kato Dve Kapki Voda in 2017. Bashar married Kalina Rahal in 2002; the couple has two daughters, Chloe and India, and Bashar shares a son, Andy, with Lubomira Basheva, bringing his total children to three. Throughout his career he has balanced acting and producing across continents, embodying the versatility of a true international artist.
