Anton Aleksandrovich Shagin, born Anton Aleksandrovich Gorshkov on 2 April 1984 in Kimry, Kalinin Oblast, Russian SFSR (then part of the USSR), is a Russian theater and film actor best known for his breakout role as Mels in the cult hit Hipsters. He spent his early childhood in the town of Karachev, Bryansk Oblast, where a tragic loss struck at age fourteen when his mother passed away. After completing ninth grade, Anton enrolled in a vocational school to become a locksmith, worked for a year, and then moved to Moscow to pursue his artistic ambitions at the prestigious Moscow Art Theatre School. Graduating in 2006, he earned the Golden Leaf award for Best Actor for his performance in Do Not Part With Your Beloved, signaling his arrival on the Russian stage. His theatrical résumé quickly expanded, featuring notable portrayals such as Lopakhin in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard and the titular Peer Gynt under director Mark Zakharov at Lenkom Theatre, as well as roles in The Red and the Black and The Coast of Utopia at the Russian Academic Youth Theatre. Parallel to his stage success, Shagin transitioned to screen, delivering a charismatic performance in Hipsters that solidified his popularity among younger audiences and opened doors to further film and television projects. 

Beyond the arts, Anton Shagin has become a vocal participant in Russia’s media landscape following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He has appeared on the Russia‑1 program Life and Destiny, delivering emotionally charged interviews in which he claims to have witnessed atrocities committed against ethnic Russians in Donbas and promotes the official Russian narrative of the conflict. In his personal life, Shagin is married to his former classmate Veronika Isayeva; the couple shares a son, Matvey (born 2008), and a daughter, Polina (born 2014). He continues to balance his acting career with public engagements, remaining an influential figure both on stage and in contemporary Russian cultural discourse.
