After graduating with a degree in cinematography from Boston University in 1972, he initially worked as a dubbing voice for Italian films released in the United States, gaining valuable industry experience and fluency in both languages. His move to Rome in the mid‑1970s marked a turning point; he quickly became a popular television personality, first achieving nationwide fame in 1978 as the whimsical “fantasista” on Renzo Arbore’s celebrated show "L'altra domenica", where his improvisational humor and charismatic presence resonated with Italian audiences.
