Aisha Tyler (born September 18, 1970) is an American actress, comedian, and talk‑show host whose career spans over three decades. Raised in San Francisco, she spent a formative year in Ethiopia and later lived in an Oakland ashram, experiences that enriched her multicultural perspective. The daughter of teacher Robin Gregory and photographer James Tyler, she was heavily influenced by her great‑grandfather Thomas Montgomery Gregory, a noted dramatist, and great‑great‑grandfather James Monroe Gregory, a Howard University professor. After attending the School of the Arts at McAteer High School alongside Sam Rockwell and Margaret Cho, she earned a degree from Dartmouth College in 1992, where she co‑founded the all‑female a cappella group Dartmouth Rockapellas and participated in the co‑ed fraternity The Tabard. Following a brief stint in advertising, Tyler toured the country pursuing comedy and relocated to Los Angeles in 1996, launching her television career with hosting duties on Talk Soup and The 5th Wheel. Her breakthrough acting roles include Andrea Marino on Ghost Whisperer, Dr. Charlie Wheeler on Friends, and the voice of Lana Kane on the acclaimed animated series Archer (2010‑2023). Tyler has also portrayed Dr. Tara Lewis on Criminal Minds since 2015 and appeared in the Santa Clause film series, as well as guest spots on CSI, 24, and Boston Legal.
