Who is Running? 1997

Daeng, a young Bangkok resident living a fairly ordinary life, discovers a mysterious newspaper that arrives at his doorstep every morning. The twist: the paper is dated for the following day, and it reports events—accidents and deaths—before they happen with eerie accuracy.

At first, Daeng is skeptical, but when he witnesses a predicted fatal accident exactly as described, he realizes he has the power to intervene. He launches a frantic, one‑man mission to save the people listed in the future “obituaries,” and his actions ripple outward in unexpected ways.

Each life he rescues alters the path of others, yet the universe seems to push back, constantly attempting to correct itself. The changes bring new chaos and unforeseen consequences, suggesting that time resists human interference even as it continues to unfold.

As Daeng becomes consumed by his role as a savior, his mental and physical health begin to suffer under the strain. The tension reaches a peak when he opens the newspaper again and finds his own name and photo listed among the next day’s deaths, forcing a stark confrontation with fate.

The film explores heavy themes with a thoughtful, restrained touch: predestination, the ethics of meddling with time, and the Thai concept of Kamma (Karma). Daeng is left to decide whether to accept the fate laid out before him or risk one final, desperate run against time to alter what seems unchangeable.
