A private investigator is hired by the seductive prima cliente Danila Trebbi to determine whether her husband, the wealthy commendator Cesare Beltramelli, Mario Carotenuto, keeps other women in his life. To avoid arousing suspicion, the detective and his assistant disguise themselves as the butler Diogene Renzo Montagnani and as Carlotta, the cook [Alvaro Vitali](/actor/alvaro-vitali, and slip into the Beltramelli household with the tacit complicity of the wife and the rest of the staff. Inside, the mission grows trickier as the pair juggle wooing three women in the house while contending with an abusive gardener who is a sex maniac, creating a tense, comic tension that tests their nerves and their cover.
During a routine shadowing of the husband, the two investigators uncover a far more complicated truth than mere infidelity: the husband is revealed to be a homosexual who enjoys wearing women’s clothes, and he maintains a relationship with a transvestite, alongside a former boxing middleweight champion Lazio. This discovery destabilizes the professionals’ assumptions and propels the plot into a web of deception and negotiation. The investigators, after negotiating with Cesare Beltramelli for a substantial payout—a deal shaped by the promises from the seductive wife—pretend not to have seen anything, aiming to secure double compensation from both spouses and to walk away with their reward.
With the job ostensibly finished, the two return home only to pick up two Finnish women who, in a surprising twist, turn out to be two men. The encounter ends with the pair losing all their money and the car, a sharp, comic sting that underscores the caper’s precarious balance between cunning and vulnerability. The entire sequence blends humor with sly social satire as misdirection, disguise, and miscommunication propel the narrative toward a chaotic, farcical finale. The cast’s performances—particularly [Danila Trebbi], [Renzo Montagnani], [Alvaro Vitali], [Mario Carotenuto], and [Lory Del Santo]—lend the film its infectious energy, while the ensemble of supporting players adds texture to the satirical exposure of bourgeois pretenses and private indiscretions.
