In late 2009, Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones were approached about re‑cutting “We Are the World” as “Live 25”. After the 7.0‑magnitude Haiti earthquake in early 2010, they agreed to re‑record the song with a new generation of artists to benefit Haiti. Directed by Paul Haggis, who finished the video 12 hours early, the clip—produced with Haitian film‑student crew—mirrors the original format, showing artist signatures, studio performances (including Michael Jackson archive footage) and intercutting scenes of earthquake‑stricken communities.
