In the fictional village of Chakkarakudam, the political wind is shaped by two siblings who live at the center of the story: K.P Sunanda, a ward member, and K.P Suresh, known as Leader, both children of Peethan, a Gandhian and a former UDP panchayat president. They inhabit two factions within the same party, and while their rivalry sparks frequent clashes and sharp banter, their bond remains unexpectedly strong, a testament to shared history and family ties.
Sunanda rises in local regard by selling organic vegetables and delivering other concrete public services that benefit the villagers. Her popularity worries Suresh, who watches as her influence grows and the ward becomes a stage for her public goodwill. He resents the surge of Sunanda’s credibility and begins quietly plotting to seize the spotlight for himself, hoping the party will recognize him as the rightful face of leadership.
A plea from Yashoda, a poor village woman, for medical help for her daughter tests Sunanda’s influence. Sunanda pushes for action, but President Pushkaran refuses to intervene, highlighting the friction between goodwill and political power. In this fractured landscape, Suresh’s schemes to climb by aligning with Sunanda’s growing fame falter, undone by a touch of stubborn foolishness that reveals the fragility of political maneuvering.
The story then folds back to college days, where a moment of quick thinking by Radhan—who runs to escape a rival rush to attack him while attempting to raise the party flag—becomes a turning point. Suresh seizes a flag, and Baburaj prevents a broader clash by stepping between the aggressors and the restrained crowd. A clash leaves Suresh injured, and his father, Sunanda, and their college friends rush to the hospital. Sunanda learns that Aleena and Suresh were in love, a revelation that complicates family dynamics and future loyalties. The revelation also deepens the rift when Alex Vettukaala, who disapproves of the relationship, exiles Aleena from their lives, testing loyalties even further.
Tragedy deepens when, as part of the escalating political rivalries, an attack by goons under Alex’s influence strikes Sunanda’s house, and Suresh and Sunanda lose their mother. Peethan, a man of forgiveness and principle, chooses to forgive the culprits, a decision that cements his reputation as a steadfast Gandhian and helps him win the presidency, breaking the LDP’s long-standing hold. Yet Alex counters with new schemes, while Pushkaran becomes entangled in a vigilance case, further complicating the local power struggle. The political maneuvering intensifies as Suresh is kept at arm’s length from the panchayat seat, while Sunanda’s presence grows in the shadows of party calculations.
To move the chess pieces, Baburaj and the LC member send Suresh and Radhan to learn party tactics under Kunjikrishnan Mash, an ideologue of the party, signaling a shift from immediate action to long-term strategy. Election preparations begin in earnest: Sasi pushes for a seat through the LC member, but the path is blocked, and Sunanda lends quiet, strategic support to Sasi as an independent candidate, while Suresh secures a seat within the LDP through Kumar’s recommendation. The plan for a communal riot, hatched by BRP leader Sathyasheelan and PPDP ally Sulaiman, is almost derailed when Sulaiman’s wife Fathima reveals the trap, forcing Sunanda to pivot and foil the scheme.
As the romance arc deepens, Aleena and Suresh marry, a union that both personalizes and personalizes the political storm around them. The party leadership ultimately designates Sunanda as a candidate for the next by-election, and she advances with a calculated, deft maneuvering that sidelights her party enemies while preserving her own power. The film closes with a somber note about family and duty: the drunken son of Keluji shatters his father’s statue, a stark reminder that power, fame, and public welfare are fragile in equal measure, and that family loyalties can be tested against the demands of the people.
