Murali Nambiar, portrayed by Jayasurya, is an alcoholic whose addiction leads to significant strife within his family and his community. As his drinking escalates, the toll on his loved ones becomes increasingly apparent; his wife, Samyuktha, and his parents are left feeling powerless as they witness his downward spiral. Struggling with his dependency, Murali resorts to stealing money and valuables from his home and friends to fund his addiction, which deeply affects those around him. There are even moments when he sells furniture from his own house to obtain money for alcohol.

His condition further deteriorates when he is frequently found sleeping in public spaces, such as sidewalks, after binge drinking. One notable incident occurs when he is wrongfully accused of stealing a gold ring at an engagement, showcasing how his reputation has soured. Additionally, Murali causes a scene at a friend’s funeral due to a misunderstanding, further isolating him from social circles. Despite his troubled state, some individuals still acknowledge his hardworking nature and his cool demeanor, reflecting the complexity of his character.

In a pivotal moment, Murali confides in a friend about his struggles, leading him to seek help at a de-addiction center where he meets Dr. Subrahmanyam, played by Siddique. Dr. Subrahmanyam, the chief doctor at the center, takes Murali under his wing, attempting to guide him through his rehabilitation. However, Murali’s commitment wavers as he continues to drink, prompting Dr. Subrahmanyam to reach out to Samyuktha, who had previously left him due to his excessive drinking. The doctor emphasizes that Murali requires love and support as part of his recovery process.

Eventually, upon completing his treatment, Murali returns to his hometown, only to discover that his parents have sold their house and moved on, leaving him feeling even more abandoned. In a moment of desperation, he attempts suicide by jumping into a well, but is saved and taken to a hospital. After learning of his suicide attempt, Dr. Subrahmanyam persuades Murali’s family to provide him with the emotional support he desperately needs.

With time and encouragement, Murali transforms his life, becoming a successful entrepreneur who launches a product called “Waterman” tiles, eventually starting to export them. The film concludes on a hopeful note, with Murali bringing another troubled soul to Dr. Subrahmanyam for treatment, reaffirming his belief in the possibility of reform, just as he was able to change his life.
