Triumph of the Ten Gladiators 1964

Ten gladiators arrive in Antioch and are approached by a man disguised as a beggar who tosses a bag of gold at them, urging them to follow him to a house. The owner introduces himself as Publius Quintilius Rufus, proconsul of the emperor in Roman Syria, and offers them a contract to perform a sequence of spectacular displays at the court of Queen Moluya, Helga Liné of Arbela.

Arbela is described as a neutral kingdom lying between Roman territory and the Parthian Empire, Rome’s bitter rival. Queen Moluya’s prime minister has reportedly reached a pact with the Parthian king, granting passage for his armies across the frontier and raising the stakes for everyone nearby. One of Publius’s men, Centurion Marcus Glaucus, will accompany the gladiators officially as the eleventh member so he can observe the situation firsthand, even though his presence is not known to the Parthians.

The ten gladiators, known for their loyalty, accept the assignment and prepare to depart for Arbela at daybreak. As war between Rome and Parthia looms, the mission’s true purpose remains hidden from the Parthians: to kidnap the ambitious queen and bring her back to Syria as a hostage for Rome. The arrangement blends public spectacle with a covert political gambit, testing loyalties and the calculated risks of espionage amid rising tensions. The troupe’s journey toward Arbela promises dazzling performances for the court, even as a more perilous objective threads itself through the surface dealings.
