Transformers: Rise of the Beasts delivers a mixed experience that lands between modest improvement and lingering franchise fatigue. Critics note a slight uplift in visual design and occasional strong performances, yet the plot is widely regarded as incoherent and the CGI overload hampers clarity. Audience reactions echo this split, with some praising the action while many label the film forgettable. The net impression is that the movie offers fleeting excitement but lacks the depth needed for broad appeal.
The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Art & Craft
The film’s art and craft show both ambition and uneven execution. Direction and robot design are praised for fresh visual flair and well‑choreographed battles, while the overall look is criticized as cheap‑looking and overly reliant on dated CGI. Editing does not consistently smooth the chaotic sequences, leading to moments of visual fatigue. Consequently, the craft feels competent but marred by inconsistent polishing.
Character & Emotion
Character work fluctuates between solid performances and shallow development. Lead actors Ramos and Fishback receive commendation for delivering credible human emotions, and supporting turns such as Pete Davidson’s voice work are highlighted as engaging. However, several reviewers describe the human cast as lacking depth and the antagonists as under‑written. This blend of competent acting within a flimsy narrative results in an overall moderate character rating.
Story & Flow
The narrative is perceived as predictable and often incoherent. Critics point to a nonsensical plot, generic "chosen‑one" tropes, and a lack of compelling stakes, while some audience members claim the story remains enjoyable despite its flaws. The pacing is uneven, with action set pieces outweighing meaningful exposition. These weaknesses drive the story score toward the lower end of the moderate range.
Sensory Experience
Sensory elements stand out as the film’s strongest asset. The 90s hip‑hop soundtrack is praised for its punchiness, and the high‑octane action delivers visually striking, well‑rendered sequences. Despite occasional CGI overload, the overall visual style remains impressive and cohesive enough to sustain audience interest. The sound design and musical choices reinforce the film’s energetic tone, lifting its sensory appeal.
Rewatch Factor
Rewatch potential is limited by the film’s forgettable plot and uneven execution. While some viewers enjoy the action and regard it as a fun diversion, many describe the experience as boring or easily surpassed after a single viewing. The lack of lasting narrative impact and the prevalence of generic set pieces reduce the incentive for repeat viewings, resulting in a modest rewatch factor.

The planet-consuming entity Unicron (portrayed by Colman Domingo) launches an assault on the home planet of the Maximals, a sophisticated race of Transformers. The harbingers of Unicron, known as the Terrorcons, led by Scourge (played by Peter Dinklage), are on a quest to acquire the Transwarp Key. This powerful artifact can create portals across space and time, accelerating Unicron’s ability to devour entire planets.
In a courageous move, the Maximal leader Apelinq (voiced by David Sobolov) sacrifices his life to ensure the escape of the remaining Maximals from their doomed world. The survivors, now under the leadership of Optimus Primal (voiced by Ron Perlman), manage to flee to Earth with the critical key.
Meanwhile, in 1994 Brooklyn, we meet Noah Diaz (portrayed by Anthony Ramos), an ex-military electronics expert facing hardships as he seeks employment to support his ailing brother, Kris (Dean Scott Vazquez). Despite attending various job interviews, Noah struggles against his past military reputation that unfairly casts him as unreliable. With mounting hospital bills and treatment denial for Kris, Noah is driven to desperation.
Encouraged by his friend Reek (played by Tobe Nwigwe), Noah attempts to steal a Porsche, only to discover it’s actually the Autobot Mirage (voiced by Pete Davidson), a spy capable of projecting holograms. Simultaneously, Elena Wallace (played by Dominique Fishback), an intern at a museum, accidentally uncovers the Transwarp Key hidden within an ancient statuette. The energy surge from the key attracts the attention of the Autobot leader Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), who assembles his team, including Arcee (voiced by Liza Koshy) and Bumblebee.
In a twist of fate, Noah teams up with Mirage to aid the Autobots in their mission to reclaim the key. However, the Terrorcons track the key’s energy signature and engage the Autobots in a fierce battle outside the museum, leading to tragic consequences when Scourge kills Bumblebee.
During the chaos, Airazor (voiced by Michelle Yeoh), a Maximal warrior, arrives to help. She discloses that the Maximals have long hid on Earth, split the Transwarp Key in two to evade Unicron, and thus, intention to keep the second half away from him. Determined to save Earth, Noah secretly conspires with Elena to destroy the key.
Elena figures out the other half of the key is located in a concealed temple in Peru. With the assistance of the Autobot Stratosphere (voiced by John Di Maggio), they travel there only to find that the key is missing. As the Terrorcons attack yet again, Scourge corrupts Airazor, leading to a tragic altercation resulting in her demise at Primal’s hand to save Elena’s life.
Noah wrestles with his intentions to destroy the key while Optimus encourages him to reconsider. However, as Scourge reassembles the key, he constructs a powerful portal set to unleash Unicron upon Earth. In an epic confrontation, Autobots and Maximals join forces to battle the Terrorcon army, while Noah and Elena attempt to disable the key’s chaotic potential.
The battle escalates with Scourge wounding Mirage, who then sacrifices himself to empower Noah with a battle exoskeleton. The once-dead Bumblebee is revived as the key’s power activates the Energon-rich valley, turning the tide of the clash. In a final showdown, Optimus defeats Scourge but not before a last-ditch effort sabotages the control console.
Optimus decides to destroy the key and collapse the portal, willing to give his life for the cause, but is saved by Noah and Primal. This act destroys the remaining Terrorcon forces and leaves Unicron stranded.
In the end, the Autobots can’t return to Cybertron and decide to embrace Earth as their new home, promising to safeguard it alongside the Maximals. Elena receives accolades for her archaeological find, while Noah interviews for a security position, only to be recruited into a covert military organization called G.I. Joe to help ensure Kris’s healthcare.
In a mid-credits scene, Noah showcases his ingenuity by repairing Mirage with discarded Porsche parts, proving to Reek that the vehicle is still capable of transformation.
