On a train journey from Pune to Hyderabad, Kutty [Vijay] is introduced as a recent seven-year ex-con who is more than a dreamer—he is an aspiring, albeit struggling, singer who keeps chasing a break. He works for Mani [Maayi Sundar], a local cable provider, and the two share a simple, gritty routine as Kutty tries to stage his voice in a city that doesn’t yet recognize his talent.

Rukmini [Simran], a college student newly arrived in the neighborhood, hears Kutty’s voice and becomes enamored with his raw, carrying tone. She sees in him echoes of her late father and starts to believe in Kutty’s gift, yet she stubbornly judges him at first as a rowdy due to misunderstandings and the negative glimpses she’s caught of his past. This creates a complicated, tense dynamic between them, even as attraction brews.

The plot thickens when Kutty, on a routine pursuit after a pickpocket, inadvertently drops a bottle of acid at the spot where Rukmini is present. The accident blinds her, and Kutty is filled with horror at the unintended tragedy he caused. Determined to make amends, he shifts from being a wary stranger to becoming her confidant and guardian, offering support and companionship as she navigates blindness.

As their bond deepens, Kutty’s music becomes a bridge between them, and love gradually blossoms. When Kutty’s mother dies, he discovers that her eyes had been donated. He resolves to fund Rukmini’s sight-restoring operation with his mother’s eyes, but the cost proves prohibitive. Facing a tough choice, he accepts an offer from a Sikh man to donate a kidney for his Pune-based father, in exchange for ₹40,000. With that money, Kutty arranges for the surgery that could bring light back to Rukmini’s world and then travels to Pune to donate his own kidney.

Tragedy returns in the most harrowing way when, while waiting at the railway station to return to Chennai, Kutty is framed as a terrorist and arrested. He is jailed in Pune, leaving behind the life he hoped to rebuild and the woman he loves.

Seven years pass, and Kutty is finally released. He makes his way back to Chennai, only to learn that Rukmini has moved away and has become a collector, her eyes restored but her memory of the events clouded by time. When the two unexpectedly cross paths, she orders his arrest again—unaware that the man she’s accusing is the same Kutty who once sang to her. But the moment Kutty starts to sing, the truth of his identity becomes undeniable, and Rukmini realizes her mistake. She apologizes, and the long arc of misunderstanding gives way to a renewed, quiet happiness as they embrace and begin anew.

This story unfolds with a patient rhythm, letting music, sacrifice, and forgiveness be the threads that tie a troubled past to a hopeful future. It balances heartbreak with acts of selflessness, showing how art can heal and how love can endure even when wrapped in misjudgment and distance.
