Vinod becomes mentally ill after his girlfriend Anitha dies due to an electric short circuit accident during a rock concert. Vinod is admitted to a mental hospital in Ooty, run by Dr Ravindran, where the staff treat patients inhumanely and the environment often feels more like a prison than a medical facility. The grim routine is matched by a harsh, personal hostility from Ravindran, who harbors a deep-seated hatred for Vinod and keeps him under tight, punitive control.

With the help of Savithri, Ravindran’s daughter, and Dr Unnikrishnan, a longtime friend from Vinod’s childhood, Vinod slowly uncovers memories and regains a sense of equilibrium that seemed lost. The renewed spark within him coincides with a blossoming romance between Vinod and Savithri, a development that Ravindran resents and actively tries to separate. Ravindran has already arranged Savithri’s marriage to Hari, and he uses the threat of losing her to justify his oppressive hold over Vinod’s fate.

Dr Unnikrishnan pleads for Vinod’s freedom, arguing that he has recovered, but Ravindran remains unmoved. This confrontation tests the limits of trust and loyalty within the hospital walls, and Unnikrishnan vows to rescue Vinod no matter what it takes. Savithri becomes a key figure in the plan, and the two doctors work together to chart a path to liberation, a plan that hinges on timing and secrecy.

When the moment finally arrives, Vinod, pushed to the edge by Ravindran’s cruelty, lashes out and overpowers the regime’s guards, creating a narrow window for escape. But the night takes a darker turn: Ravindran retaliates in a final, devastating act by lobotomising Vinod, leaving him in a coma and utterly dependent on others. Dr Unnikrishnan is shattered to find Vinod unresponsive, and the weight of the decision to end his life weighs heavily on him. He confronts Ravindran and confesses to the euthanasia, an act that garners little sympathy from those who witness it.

The revelation destabilizes Savithri, whose grip on reality slips as she absorbs the gravity of the confession. The shock pushes her into a breaking point, and she is ultimately admitted back into the same institution as a patient, joining Vinod in a shared, by-then-tragic fate. The saga concludes with the lingering consequences of power, love, and moral reckoning inside the hospital’s walls, leaving a scarred but resolute core of characters who must live with the choices that unfolded in the shadow of cruelty and care.
