After an injury ends his song-and-dance act, Bert Kalmar becomes a lyricist. He meets composer Harry Ruby and their first song is a hit. Ruby urges Kalmar to marry former partner Jessie Brown, and together they stop Ruby from unsuitable marriages. When Ruby’s meddling causes a backer to pull funding from a Kalmar play, their partnership ends.
