The Turning 1992

Cliff Harnish [Michael Dolan] returns to his hometown of Pocahontas, Virginia after four years away, determined to stop his parents’ divorce from tearing the family apart. He discovers a fractured home: his mother Martha [Tess Harper] Harnish has turned to alcohol, and his father Mark [Raymond J. Barry] is seeing Glory [Karen Allen] Lawson. Cliff also faces an awkward reunion with his ex-girlfriend, April [Gillian Anderson].

Desperate to mend the broken bridge between his parents, Cliff hatches a risky plan. He pretends to be a delivery driver to gain entry to Glory’s house, and once inside, he reveals his true identity. He then threatens Glory, calling her a “homewrecker” and pressing her to end her relationship with his father. In the heat of the confrontation, it becomes clear that Cliff has adopted white supremacist and neo-Nazi beliefs, a revelation that deeply unsettles everyone around him. Disturbed by his son’s actions, Mark disowns Cliff.

The tension escalates when Cliff returns to Glory’s home again, this time with Mark present. He breaks in and captures Glory at knifepoint, insisting that Mark shoot him first. He even passes Glory’s gun to Mark in a chilling attempt to coerce the action. Unable to bring himself to kill his son, Mark fires into the wall behind Cliff and Glory instead. Glory seizes the gun and aims it at Cliff, but Mark restrains her from firing. He then forces Cliff to drop the knife and delivers a stark message about consequences, insisting that Cliff must learn to live with the pain of his parents’ divorce. In the end, Mark and Cliff leave the house together, a moment that signals a painful but real step toward acceptance and reconciliation, even as the underlying wounds remain.
