In Boston, the day-to-day life of the Finch family takes a sharp turn when teenager Clancy Finch is invited to a party by her crush, Travis Schultz. The excitement is cut short as her younger brother Kevin is humiliated when older students film him dancing in a school bathroom, only to have their mother, Margot, a strict lunch monitor, intervene in the moment. The video of Kevin dancing, paired with Margot’s firm scolding of the bullies, explodes online and goes viral, drawing millions of views on YouTube and turning the Finch household into a small-town spectacle overnight.

After Clancy is grounded for arguing with her parents about going to Travis’s party, she and her friend Mim sneak out during a sleepover, chasing the chance for a night away from surveillance and expectations. Meanwhile, Kevin and his friend Lewis become witnesses to something far more dangerous: two strangers break into the Finch home, force Ron—Clancy and Kevin’s father—at gunpoint, and demand Margot, whom they ominously refer to as “Matilda,” to accompany them. Margot agrees to go, leaving behind a necklace as a clue that hints at deeper secrets than anyone in the family could imagine.

The kids soon uncover a startling truth: a U.S. Marshal named Henry Gibbs is sneaking into their home. Suspecting an intruder, they restrain him, only to learn from Gibbs that Margot is living under witness protection because she once turned in a major crime syndicate boss. The viral video that made Margot’s identity public threatens the family’s safety and everything they’ve tried to protect.

Guided by Margot’s clues, the children discover a hidden storage unit that once served as her spy headquarters. They commandeer a self-driving spy car to get to Travis’s party and then attempt to travel downtown Boston aboard Travis’s boat, but their plan is thwarted by the Coast Guard. They manage to swim ashore and cross paths with Margot’s friend Jay, who helps them pinpoint Margot’s location at a high-profile gala. The kids slip away from Jay’s watch and press on toward the event.

At the gala, Margot, Ron, and her ex-fiancé, Leo Bouchot—who had been assumed to be in witness protection—team up to steal the Crown of Moldana. Things go awry when Ron accidentally ingests a knockout drug meant for the Queen, causing a chaotic scene. The trio is captured, but they quickly escape and reunite with the kids inside the venue, fleeing to Leo’s safe house to regroup.

Inside that hideout, a harsh truth emerges: Leo is not just Margot’s former fiancé, but the new head of the syndicate she once exposed. He and his associate Elise plan to frame the Finch family for the theft. Ron creates a calculated distraction, Margot overpowers Elise, and the family makes a clean break. In the final confrontation, Margot boldly kicks the crown from Leo’s hands, and Clancy seizes it, a pivotal moment that leads to Leo and his crew being arrested by the Boston Police.

Back home, life edges back toward normal, but the experience leaves a lasting imprint. Clancy earns a seat in a summer music program at Berklee, and the Finch family resumes their routines—with a strengthened bond and a deeper appreciation for Margot’s past and the resilience she embodies. The film closes on a note of renewed respect and a sense that their ordinary world can endure even when extraordinary secrets surface.
