Diego, Luca Argentero, a Turin-based car salesman who, unsettled by his father’s death, decides to reinvent his life; Fausto, Edoardo Leo, a Roman right-wing TV dealer who is buried in debt and weary of his status quo; and Claudio, Stefano Fresi, also from Rome, whose long-running family grocery business has collapsed and who is approaching a divorce. These three men, each grappling with a different kind of failure, cross paths by chance while looking at a countryside farmhouse to refurbish and run together, hoping the project will give them a new lease on life. Then Sergio, Claudio Amendola, one of Fausto’s creditors and a militant communist, joins the venture, adding a volatile mix of politics and risk to the plan.
As the group settles into the work, Elisa, Anna Foglietta, a young pregnant woman, is brought in by Claudio to help with cleaning and cooking, and Abu, Rufin Doh Zeyenouin, a Ghanaian laborer, also becomes part of the makeshift family. The renovation progresses, and the four men—Diego, Fausto, Claudio, and Sergio—quickly find themselves drawn into a forbidden kind of enterprise as they confront a dangerous visitor: Vito, Carlo Buccirosso, a Camorra figure driving an Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 who comes to reclaim a debt he believes is owed to him. In a heated moment, Sergio administers a punch, and the four decide to seize the car for themselves and hide it away in the farmhouse basement, effectively making it disappear. The car’s stereo is found to be broken, and crucially, the keys are still inside the vehicle.
In the days that follow, two more men arrive, hoping to claim the car, and they suffer the same fate as Vito. The growing tension is mirrored by the ruse the group uses to bring in extra help, as Diego spins a legend about the buried car to explain the strange music that seems to emanate from the cellar. The situation reaches a new intensity when Vito’s superior appears, escorted by a thug, to demand the car’s return; the thug returns a few days later to collect, only to be seized as well. With a combination of luck and cunning, the four Camorra-linked men manage to turn the situation around, trapping the four partners—Diego, Fausto, Claudio, and Elisa—inside the cellar together.
Yet the escape proves dramatic: Vito ultimately allows them a daring exit aboard his own Alfa Romeo Giulia, a vehicle that is only partially unearthed thanks to Abu and his friends’ intervention. What began as a simple farm refurbishment spirals into a darkly comic meditation on ambition, loyalty, and the way desperate choices pull ordinary people into a web of crime. The film blends sharp humor with a stark look at how quickly a supposedly routine project can entangle competing interests, with each character’s dream pushing them toward unpredictable, comic, and sometimes perilous consequences.
