Federico Torres Muro was born on 22 July 1957 in La Felguera, a town in the province of Asturias, Spain. He entered the Spanish diplomatic corps, where he built a reputation for adept negotiation and strategic foresight. In 2008 he received his first high‑profile posting as Ambassador of Spain to Ecuador, a role he fulfilled until 31 March 2012, overseeing bilateral trade initiatives and cultural exchanges. After a period away from ambassadorial duties, he returned to the forefront of Spanish foreign policy on 24 June 2017 when he was appointed Ambassador to El Salvador.
