The Legend of Suram Fortress 1985

This film reimagines a well-known Georgian folk tale that was brought into written literature by the 19th-century writer Daniel Chonkadze. At its center is Durmishkhan Zura Kipshidze, a serf who has earned his freedom but must secure the liberty of the woman he loves, Vardo Sofiko Chiaureli, in order to marry her. The story follows a winding path through loyalty, language of faith, and the trials of a country under pressure.
