The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure 1994

In the sunlit days of the Great Valley, Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike live a carefree life under the watchful eyes of their families. The group’s sense of mischief meets a hard lesson when, while trying to reach the sheltering grass to play, they stumble into sinking sand around the grassland. The adults pull them to safety and gently but firmly remind them that recklessness can have serious consequences. That night, the kids hold a secret meeting to prove their bravery and maturity by venturing into the Mysterious Beyond, a vast and unknown place beyond the Valley where Sharpteeth roam. Before they depart, they witness two eggnappers, Ozzy and Strut, stealing an egg from the nest of Ducky’s mother, setting the stage for a dangerous confrontation.

The storm’s roar adds drama to the escape as a landslide tears through the Great Wall that guards the Valley, scattering rocks and sending the egg back toward its original nest—though the group remains unaware of that turn of events amid the chaos. In the Mysterious Beyond, the friends discover a larger egg and, believing it to be the one they meant to protect, haul it back into the Valley with a mix of excitement and worry. Meanwhile, the original egg is discovered safe again in Ducky’s nest, yet the youngsters press on with their plan to hatch the new find, eager to prove their growing independence. When the egg finally hatches, it reveals a baby Sharptooth (a Tyrannosaurus), an animal they mistake for a potential ally rather than a threat. Littlefoot quickly realizes that the hatchling is not yet dangerous and decides to raise him, naming him “Chomper” as the new member of their circle.

This choice soon proves complicated. Chomper is not an herbivore, and Littlefoot has little experience raising a child with such appetite and potential. Ozzy and Strut reappear, seeking revenge for their earlier theft, but their plan is interrupted by a surprising turn—Chomper’s shadow grows large enough to frighten them, and they mistake it for an adult Sharptooth, forcing them to retreat. The rest of the group welcomes Chomper, accepting him as part of the family until a frightened bite on Cera unsettles everyone and sends Chomper running away in tears. The friends pursue, ending at a smoking mountain where Ozzy and Strut attempt another attack; the mountain’s eruption then hurls them into a canyon, ending that threat for the moment.

The valley’s residents soon face a more pressing danger: two adult Sharpteeth find their way into the Great Valley through the opening in the Great Wall. A united defense from the whole valley drives the intruders back, and the children scramble back to their families for safety. Yet Chomper feels isolated once again, and he wanders off, leaving Littlefoot to wonder how to keep their new friend included in the community he cherishes. The adults press to understand how the Sharpteeth penetrated the barrier, and the children recount the chain of events that led to the landslide and the fragile breach.

With a plan forming to seal the entrance permanently, the adults ask the kids to stay behind. Determined to repair the rift, Littlefoot seeks out Chomper, and the two are soon tracked by the two Sharpteeth. In a tense moment, Chomper roars to protect his friend, and the pursuers recognize him as their kin, deciding to leave with him rather than fight. The moment of danger shifts again when Littlefoot is kidnapped by Ozzy and Strut, who intend to fling him off the Great Wall. Chomper hears Littlefoot’s screams and leads his parents to the rescue, giving them a chance to intervene. In the ensuing chase, Chomper’s parents chase Ozzy and Strut back into the Mysterious Beyond, freeing Littlefoot and solidifying a bond that transcends fear.

Returning to the Valley, Littlefoot embraces his role in helping the adults seal the entrance, and he shares a bittersweet realization with his grandparents: growing up may be challenging, but it also carries a sense of understanding and belonging. With a new appreciation for youth and responsibility, he looks forward to the days ahead, knowing that friendship, family, and courage can coexist even as the world outside changes.
