Harry Hill enjoys a chaotic day that kicks off with a scooter chase alongside his grandmother, Nan. Nan has no idea it’s him, and the moment is as comical as it is tense. After a brief, dizzying pursuit, Harry is sent to fetch a chicken for lunch. The poultry plot takes a wild turn when the chickens open fire with a machine gun and toss a grenade toward him; he retaliates by hurling the explosive back into the coop, blowing it up in a ridiculous, cartoonish blaze of feathers and chaos.
Nan then sits Harry down for a startling family tale, recounting the story of his twin brother Otto. She claims Otto was abandoned in the 1970s and raised by Alsatians because she couldn’t care for them both. Harry listens but remains skeptical, reminding her that she has told this story many times before. The moment hints at deeper family history even as the road trip refuses to slow down.
Their journey takes a sharper turn when their beloved hamster, Abu, falls ill. They rush him to the local veterinary team, where the veterinarian identified as Vet and his assistant, Kisko, declare that Abu has only a week to live. The news is grim enough to spark a desperate plan: keep Abu alive, no matter the cost. But the duo’s involvement runs deeper than sympathy, as it soon becomes clear they are working for Otto, who wants Abu for himself.
Ed and Kisko double down on their schemes, disguising themselves as a priest and a nun in a bid to capture Abu again. The plan falls apart when Harry walks in on them and misreads the scene as a gay encounter, a misunderstanding that only adds to the film’s absurd humor. With the disguise misplaced, Abu speaks with a wish to spend his final days visiting Rihanna, a wish that Harry, who cannot communicate with hamsters, misreads as a trip to Blackpool. The trio sets off in a vintage Rover P6, turning a simple errand into a roaming misadventure.
On the road, Ed and Kisko pursue them in a hilariously oversized mobile traffic cone, eventually landing in a place called Blackpole by mistake. They crash for the night at a quirky B&B run by The Magic Numbers, while Harry and Nan press on with their unlikely quest. The next day, Abu receives a personal, guided tour of a nuclear power plant from Bill the cleaner, who is dressed in drag for the occasion. The scene blends quirky slapstick with a surprising sense of peril as Ed and Kisko resume their hunt, this time disguising themselves as cleaners. The radiation in the plant temporarily transforms Abu into a giant, kaiju-like creature, adding a surreal twist to the escapade.
The trio then meets Barney Cull, a member of the Shell People, who pleads for help to rescue the children of his people from a gift shop. The mission leads them to an underwater encounter with the Shell People’s world, where Harry finds himself drawn to Michelle, the daughter of the Shell King Conch. He is deeply affected but leaves the underwater home behind, unable to adjust to life beneath the waves.
Their road trip continues into a dingy boxing match, staged by Ed in the guise of a ringmaster-like referee. The fight pits Harry against Kisko in a bid to protect Abu, and Harry wins with a free stick of rock, a small victory in a sea of chaos. A petrol shortage soon forces them to improvise; the car runs dry in a wooded stretch, and they have to leave Abu behind while they search for fuel. The danger isn’t over, as Ed and Kisko almost kidnap Abu again, ripping the car apart in the process.
Meanwhile, Otto teams up with Renard Depardieu, a master of disguise fox, and the group finds themselves riding in a limo with Ed and Kisko disguised as Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. The entourage rolls into Blackpool for a show featuring The Dachsund Five, a Jackson 5 tribute act. In a bittersweet reunion, Michelle resurfaces, much to Nan’s dismay, and Abu is captured once more, replaced by Renard wearing a hamster hoodie.
The chase leads them to Otto’s hideout, marked by a breadcrumb trail of BBQ-flavored Hula Hoops. Otto reveals a revenge-fueled plan: turn Abu into a model figurine for his collection after being deserted. In a tense clash, Nan reveals she once got rid of Otto because she kept confusing him with Harry. They’re briefly blocked by killer brains, but the Shell People come to the rescue, with Barney even firing a bazooka to fend off one of the threat’s intrusions. Nan accepts the romantic bond between Barney and Michelle, adding a surprising human thread to the surreal tale.
The pursuit pushes all the way to the top of the Blackpool Tower, where a high-stakes chase ends when Nan saves Harry and Abu in a helicopter. Otto is defeated, and Ed and Kisko begin the road to reform. The revelation about Abu’s illness proves odd but harmless: he was suffering because he sucked on a green felt-tip pen, which Ed reveals is a common hamster quirk. Harry points out that the kidnapping plan could have happened without the elaborate ruse, but the moment becomes another quirky twist in their adventure.
In the end, the shells of the Shell People celebrate in their cave with a joyous chorus, singing “You Got the Love.” The film closes on a note of bemused triumph, with fresh bonds formed, rivalries resolved, and a family story that’s both ridiculous and unexpectedly touching.
