A young couple named Jim and Lori lose control of their motorbike while riding through a dense forest. With Jim hurt, she returns in search of help, only to find Jim dead hanging from a tree, and soon afterwards is killed by a hidden trap.
Weeks later, a group of campers consisting of Dennis, Margaret, Windy, Marco, Nathaniel, Boone, Eggar, Vanessa, Mike, and Melanie, arrive at the forest. They clear a campsite and settle in for the night around a bonfire, sharing a story that blends tragedy and vengeance. The tale centers on a young teenager who was raped and driven insane, eventually confined to a local mental institution. There, her baby boy is taken from her, and when the boy turns 19, he tracks down his mother and releases her to live in the forest, setting the stage for a chilling reminder that the past can come back to haunt present danger.
The next morning, Marco and Eggar are found missing. While the others split up to search, Mike swims with Melanie and they share a private moment, only for a camouflaged killer to strike, stabbing Mike to death and then abducting Melanie. Nathaniel and Dennis uncover an abandoned cabin that holds an old grave; Dennis enters the cabin and Nathaniel hears a scream, only to learn it was a scare tactic meant to frighten him. Inside, they discover a severed wolf’s head stored in a cabinet, a gruesome clue that rattles the camp as they return to the others.
That night, the killer appears beside Margaret in her sleep, prompting her to cry out. The campers eventually find Marco has returned to the camp, alive but shaken. When Vanessa storms off toward the outhouse after correcting the men for scaring the women, she screams as Mike’s severed head falls onto her, forcing the group to rush to her aid and confirm the horrific fate that has befallen their comrade. The survivors press on, spending a tense night on the river and hoping Melanie can still be found.
The morning brings a careful plan to outwit the killer. The group camouflages themselves and scouts a fallen redwood tree they can use for an ambush on Eggar. Dennis climbs to the top of a high tree and triggers a deadly spike trap that could end the threat once and for all. As the ambush unfolds, Eggar’s missing, feral mother—the subject of the earlier legend—emerges as the killer, a terrifying revelation that reframes everything the campers thought they knew about the forest and the danger within. She charges toward the group, setting off the trap and meeting a mortal end as, in silent horror, Eggar’s mother hangs dead in the waiting mechanism.
In the aftermath, the survivors stand in stunned silence, reflective of the cost of fear, mistrust, and a past that refuses to stay buried. The forest, once a place of escape, becomes a somber reminder of how swiftly a hidden danger can reveal itself and alter the course of every life it touches.
