The Bourne Supremacy 2004

Two years after their mysterious disappearance, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) and Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente) find themselves in the vibrant setting of Goa, India. While grappling with unsettling flashbacks related to his life as a CIA assassin, Bourne takes to documenting his memories in a notebook, hoping to piece together his fragmented past.

In a different part of the world, the tension rises as a CIA operative under the directive of Deputy Director Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) is seen preparing a $3 million deal with a mysterious Russian informant for critical documents known as the “Neski files.” These files contain vital information about a theft involving a staggering $20 million that took place seven years ago. However, the operation is abruptly disrupted by Kirill (Karl Urban), an agent working for the Russian Federal Security Service and under the control of the powerful oligarch Yuri Gretkov (Karel Roden).

Before the chaos unfolds, Kirill cunningly plants two bombs within the building’s electrical framework, leading to a power outage. While one bomb detonates, the other remains dormant but will later be linked to Bourne through planted fingerprints, setting him up as the fall guy. The unfolding tragedy escalates when Kirill finishes off the CIA agent and the informant, absconding with both the stolen funds and crucial documents. Following this, Gretkov instructs Kirill to eliminate Bourne, who has unwittingly caught the attention of dangerous enemies.

As fate has it, Bourne spots Kirill at a marketplace and on the beach, leading to a frantic escape with Marie in their vehicle. Despite their quick-thinking seat swap during a harrowing car chase, Kirill tragically shoots and kills Marie, oblivious to the fact that Bourne had been seated in her place. Devastated by the loss, Bourne leaves Goa and heads to Naples, seeking answers.

Back in the CIA’s headquarters, Landy investigates Bourne’s fingerprints but encounters a brick wall when trying to access his files, which are securely stored under Project Treadstone. During her inquiries, she consults Director Ward Abbott (Brian Cox) about the shady operations of Treadstone, a clandestine CIA program that Bourne was once part of. Abbott reveals that following a botched mission, Bourne had a significant role in the downfall of Treadstone’s key players, including the killing of Alexander Conklin, the program’s former supervisor.

Landy discovers that the agent embroiled in the $20 million heist was already named in the Neski files. She uncovers that Vladimir Neski, a Russian politician, was on the brink of exposing the thief before he met his end, allegedly at the hands of his wife in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. With growing suspicion about Bourne’s involvement in the deaths and his connections to Treadstone, both Landy and Abbott make their way to Berlin in pursuit of him.

Meanwhile, Bourne, in Naples, brazenly allows his identification by security. After overpowering his CIA interrogator, he retrieves information from a SIM card. This leads Bourne to learn about the frame-up orchestrated against him by Landy and Abbott. Determined to learn more, he travels to Munich to confront Jarda (Marton Csokas), another surviving Treadstone operative. The confrontation escalates to a deadly showdown where Bourne is compelled to defend himself, killing Jarda as he narrowly escapes capture by the CIA.

Bourne, convinced that he is once again being hunted, reaches out to Landy from a nearby rooftop, amidst her claims that he has killed two CIA agents. He stands firm, demanding to meet with Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles), who he had previously encountered during a tense moment in Alexanderplatz. Bourne spares Nicky’s life upon learning that Abbott was actually the mastermind behind Treadstone and not Conklin as he had previously believed. Nicky reveals the suspicious dealings Landy was conducting, particularly her attempts to buy files that could potentially expose a mole within the CIA.

Haunted by disjointed memories of his past missions, Bourne revisits the hotel where the Neski assassination took place. Through intense recollection, he remembers carrying out Wiley’s orders, resulting in the tragic deaths of the Neskis framed as a murder-suicide. Following this, Danny Zorn (Gabriel Mann), a former assistant to Conklin, unravels critical inconsistencies surrounding Bourne’s supposed role and reports his findings to Abbott, who resorts to drastic measures to silence him.

Bourne later infiltrates Abbott’s hotel room, capturing a violent conversation that serves to incriminate both Abbott and Gretkov in the $20 million heist. Abbott’s confession unveils a web of betrayal, revealing that he had manipulated Bourne, authorized the Neski hit, and arranged for Bourne to be eliminated following the framing. When confronted by Bourne, Abbott anticipates his death and is stunned when Bourne chooses not to kill him instead, leaving behind a loaded gun on the table, a testament to his respect for Marie’s memory. However, Abbott, under pressure from Landy, ultimately takes his own life rather than face the fallout of his actions.

As the dust settles, Bourne travels to Moscow in search of Irena Neski (Oksana Akinshina), the daughter of his previous target. The stakes intensify as Kirill resurfaces, tasked yet again by Gretkov to hunt down Bourne. In a final encounter, Kirill inflicts a severe wound upon Bourne, leading to a high-speed chase culminating in a collision that leaves Kirill gravely injured. With Gretkov taken into custody, Bourne confronts Irena, extending his heartfelt apologies for the atrocities he committed against her parents before making his bittersweet exit.

In the aftermath, Bourne reaches out to Landy, who is grateful for the evidence he provided and reveals to him his true identity as David Webb, complete with his birth date. She invites him for a meeting, but Bourne, caught in the complexities of his past and present, leaves with the poignant line, > “Get some rest, Pam. You look tired.”
