Tarzan and the Leopard Woman 1946

Near the Zambezi, travelers are dying under mysterious circumstances, initially believed to be leopard attacks. The commissioner asks Tarzan to investigate, but he suspects a more human and cunning threat behind the killings. At the same time, Tarzan, Jane, and Boy take in Kimba, a boy who claims to have become lost in the jungle. Kimba is the brother of Queen Lea, the leader of a Leopard cult who has dispatched him to spy on Tarzan. Queen Lea also conspires with Ameer Lazar, a Western-educated doctor who resents Western domination.

Kimba has his own goal: to win the heart of Jane, a deed that would make him a warrior in the eyes of the cult. The Leopard Men wear skins that form a cowl and cape, with iron claws attached to the back of each hand, turning them into deadly, silent threats. [Queen Lea] wears ceremonial leopard-skin attire and uses ritual invocations in an underground chamber to drive her followers forward: “These skins are your disguise. These claws are your weapons. Go not as men, but as leopards. Go swiftly, silently.”

They attack a caravan bringing four young teachers and take the maidens back for sacrifice. They also capture Tarzan, Jane, and Boy. Tarzan fights to survive and, in a bold move, brings down the roof of the cavern, collapsing the cult’s lair and rescuing his friends.

If an animal can act like a man, why not a man like an animal?

The tale unfolds with a clash between Tarzan’s strength and the Leopard Men’s fervor, culminating in a dramatic rescue that restores a fragile balance in the jungle frontier.
