Sivayya is an innocent orphan with a brain injury that leaves him with low intellectual function. He lives with his grandmother Nirmalamma in a quiet village, where life moves at a gentle, predictable pace. In the same village, Lalitha, a young widow with a five-year-old son, shares a home with her brother Chalapati and his family. Her sister-in-law Y. Vijaya often abuses them, but Lalitha bears it with quiet dignity.

Sivayya often encounters Lalitha and is deeply moved by the hardship she endures. During the Sri Rama Navami festival, the two marry, shocking the villagers. Sivayya’s grandmother approves of the marriage, moved by compassion for Lalitha, but his uncle and the orthodox villagers oppose the remarriage of a widow. In the ensuing clash, Sivayya’s grandmother dies, leaving him in Lalitha’s care. Lalitha moves in with him, with the blessing of her brother, and a sense of new beginnings settles over the small household.

Some villagers rally to help them build a new life together. Gradually, Lalitha teaches Sivayya the everyday duties and responsibilities of running a home, guiding him as he finds steady work and begins to support his wife and her son. The family grows; they have a son and live together with a growing sense of stability and warmth. Years pass, and Lalitha becomes ill, dying in her husband’s arms, a loss that weightily marks the end of a chapter.

In the final moments, Sivayya steps out of his house, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and carries a tulsi plant—an enduring memory of Lalitha’s love that keeps their shared history alive within the family.
