What Is Summer Wars About?

A teenage math prodigy, Kenji, is unexpectedly thrust into Oz, a sprawling virtual world populated by both humans and artificial intelligence. He unknowingly activates a powerful system within Oz, and soon finds himself tasked with stopping a malevolent AI known as the Love Machine, which threatens to destroy the virtual realm and potentially impact the real world. Kenji must team up with others to navigate the complexities of Oz and restore balance before it’s too late.

The narrative follows Kenji Koiso, a high school student with exceptional mathematical skills but lacking in social finesse. His summer unfolds when he is approached by Natsuki, one of the school’s most admired figures, who enlists his help for a special occasion: her great-grandmother’s 90th birthday celebration. Without knowing the full scope of the arrangements, Kenji agrees to accompany Natsuki to her grandmother’s estate in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture. To his astonishment, he is introduced to the family as Natsuki’s fiancé.
