Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog 2021

The arrival at the Mayor’s opulent home brings a guided tour of a connected museum, which chronicles Nowhere’s long history of attracting bizarre happenings. While [Shaggy Rogers] and Scooby-Doo search for a bite to eat, Courage, ever the wary guardian, keeps an eye on the surrounding oddities. The cave-in that follows during the Cicada Queen’s onslaught knocks several members—[Fred Jones], [Daphne Blake], [Velma Dinkley] and Muriel—into a hidden subterranean chamber. There, the trio uncovers a peculiar device that repeatedly emits outgoing cellphone calls, a clue that points to a larger scheme at work. They destroy the machine and manage to escape, though the danger is far from over.

Back at the Bagge residence, Eustice Bagge eagerly welcomes guests, crafting a memorable Shaggy-esque sandwich as the doorbell rings and more visitors arrive. Each guest appears to be connected to the mysterious cellphone scheme, leaving behind surprising sums of money for the Bagges and their allies. The group attempts to return to uncover the truth behind the events, but another attack by the Cicada Queen leads to the kidnapping of most of the party, leaving Scooby-Doo and Courage to hold the line.

With Velma’s tablet plugged into Courage’s computer, the team pieces together a startling explanation: the oversized cicadas, and nearly every other strange incident Courage has faced, stem from a dark matter meteor buried beneath the very site of the Bagge residence. The meteor, long believed to be tied to the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs, becomes the key to understanding Nowhere’s oddities. Courage and Scooby-Doo race to retrieve the meteor and succeed in rescuing the rest of the gang. Yet their escape is thwarted when the Cicada Queen seizes the meteor and holds Muriel hostage, forcing Courage to confront his deepest fears in a dramatic confrontation. After a grueling battle, the Cicada Queen is finally trapped beneath the wreckage of the Bagge windmill.

The arrival of The General and The Lieutenant signals a last-chance pursuit, and the truth about the Cicada Queen bursts into view: she is not a mere insect monarch but a mech piloted by Katz and Le Quack. Having discovered the meteor’s power, Katz and Le Quack planned to hijack Nowhere’s political machinery and use the meteor to hypnotize wealthy locals, stashing its power at the Bagge residence. Their scheme escalates as they try to weaponize the meteor by convincing the cicadas to do their bidding. Courage, inspired by his friends’ bravery and his own growth, devises a counterplan and, in a final twist of ingenuity, the meteor is repurposed as a dazzling disco ball so the town can celebrate rather than be controlled.

In the end, the community of Nowhere is saved, the meteor’s danger neutralized, and the once-threatening cicadas retreat to the margins of the town’s memory. The collaboration between the Scooby-Doo gang and the Bagges—now bonded by shared peril and a few hard-won lessons—leaves Nowhere a little wiser and a lot more curious about the strange forces that keep visiting their quiet town.
