Sixth grader Cameron Sawyer moves through a rough social landscape at his school, part of a rowdy gang of “bad boys” that uses taunts and intimidation to keep others in line. He hides his softer side behind a mullet and bravado, all while secretly nurturing a crush on Talia Alden, a classmate who has been dating a boy named Jake Magnum since second grade. After being largely ignored by Talia, Cameron makes a bold choice: he leaves the gang and abandons his distinctive hairstyle to win her attention.
