Shazam! 2019

In Winter 1974, a young Thaddeus Sivana and his older brother are headed home with their father when Thaddeus’s play with a magic 8 ball unexpectedly transports him to the Rock of Eternity. Here, he encounters a powerful wizard who introduces him to mystical statues embodying the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth. As the last member of a council of seven, the wizard has spent centuries seeking a worthy champion. During a purity test, Thaddeus attempts to touch the eye of envy but fails, resulting in his return to the car where he causes a commotion that leads to a tragic accident for his family. The magic 8 ball ominously reads “find me.”

Fast forward to modern-day, we meet Billy Batson. While at a carnival with his mother, he loses a pendant and, in the chase after it, gets separated and eventually picked up by the police. He is then placed in a foster home with the Vasquez family, consisting of other siblings including Eugene, Darla, Pedro, Mary, and Freddy.

In a twist of fate, Dr. Sivana becomes obsessed with uncovering the source of his childhood visions, leading him to the wizard’s lair. After gruesome confrontations at his workplace, where he unleashes his quest for power and the deadly sins, he becomes a formidable adversary.

At school, Billy finds himself adjusting to his new life with his foster siblings. Despite initial struggles, he soon discovers his ability to transform into the superhero Shazam after encountering the wizard’s direct intervention. With newfound powers that include lightning, super speed, and incredible strength, Billy and his friend Freddy embark on a quest to test Shazam’s capabilities, often leading to humorous situations like charging people’s phones for fun.

As Thaddeus Sivana rises in power and malice, his confrontation with Shazam becomes inevitable. They clash spectacularly throughout Philadelphia, leading to a dramatic showdown at a carnival where Shazam ultimately embraces his destiny. In a pivotal scene, he shares his powers with his foster family, transforming them into the Shazam Family, each becoming a superhero in their own right.

The battle intensifies at the carnival as Sivana attempts to wreak havoc, turning the festive event into a battleground. However, through teamwork and bravery, the Shazam Family manages to thwart Sivana’s plans, reclaim the powers of the Seven Deadly Sins, and finally secure their place as heroes.

In a heartwarming conclusion, Billy reconciles his relationship with his foster family, realizing the true meaning of what it is to be part of a family. At school, a touching moment occurs when Billy, as Shazam, openly acknowledges his friends and family, highlighting the importance of their support.

The film wraps up with a humorous mid-credits scene teasing future adventures for Sivana and a playful interaction between Shazam and fish, reminiscent of iconic superhero moments.
