Vijay, Venkatesh, an engineer at AP Oils, leads a modest life with his widowed mother, Shanta. When he discovers that there are oil wells near the small village of Attamadugu, a gate of opportunity opens, and with it comes the temptation of a tempting bribe. A shrewd businessman named Sangliyana approaches him with a tempting offer to seize those wells, hoping to profit from the newly found oil. Yet Vijay stands firm, refusing the illicit deal and warning Sangliyana that he won’t be pulled into any unlawful scheme. With his integrity intact, he heads to Attamadugu to begin the legitimate work and to set the stage for what lies ahead.

In Attamadugu, the social order is firmly controlled by Rajeswari Devi, a powerful and unscrupulous woman whose word feels like law to the villagers. The land and the wealth surrounding the village largely belong to her brother Jaya Chandra, a recovering drunkard whose grip on the village is challenged by her ambition. She keeps him confined in a room and treats his daughter Lakshmi as a servant, reinforcing a harsh hierarchy that treats family bonds as disposable under her rule. From the start, Vijay finds himself pushing back against Rajeswari Devi, often teasing her daughter Nirmala Devi as he asserts his own independence, and he can’t help but sense that Lakshmi may be closer to him than she appears.

As the plot thickens, Rajeswari Devi forms a dangerous alliance with Sangliyana, pooling money and influence to eliminate Vijay. Lakshmi, who seems to be listening more than she lets on, overhears their deadly plan and discreetly alerts Vijay, buying him precious time and shifting the balance of power in their favor. Her quick action earns Vijay’s trust, and the two begin to see that Lakshmi’s loyalty may be rooted in a bond that goes deeper than appearances.

Rajeswari Devi decides to punish Lakshmi by arranging her marriage to another servant, hoping to strip away any potential threat to her own control. Vijay intervenes, stops the wedding, and rebukes the matriarch for her cruelty. Yet the confrontation reveals a deeper wound: Rajeswari Devi tries to shame Lakshmi by telling everyone that Lakshmi’s mother was a prostitute, and she brandishes a photograph she claims proves it. The image devastates Vijay because the photograph belongs to none other than his own mother, Shanta, and this revelation shatters Vijay’s sense of his family’s honor.

Confronted with this painful truth, Vijay returns home to question Shanta about the nature of her life as a widow and the stories that have haunted their family. Shanta, poised and resolute, finally reveals the past that shaped their lives: Jaya Chandra, once the village’s respected arbitrator, fell from grace as Rajeswari Devi’s jealousy and ambition fanned the flames of conflict. She manipulated Shanta, accusing her of an extramarital affair in front of the villagers, and Jaya Chandra’s judgment condemned Shanta to widowhood by removing her mangalsutra, bangles, and other marks of marriage. Shanta’s despair led her to a desperate attempt at suicide, but Vijay’s intervention saved her, and the pair fled the village to start anew.

Armed with the truth, Vijay makes a plan to challenge the oppressive regime of Rajeswari Devi. Meanwhile, Nirmala Devi uncovers the hidden history and, moved by the past, begins to view Vijay in a new light. With Nirmala’s help, Vijay navigates the political game that has kept Attamadugu under Rajeswari Devi’s thumb. He confronts her in public, forcing her to acknowledge the injustices she has inflicted on his mother and on Lakshmi. The act of revelation shakes the village, and even Jaya Chandra experiences a twinge of remorse as he witnesses the consequences of his own past actions.

As the community begins to rally around the truth, Sangliyana returns to escalate his vendetta. He abducts Shanta, threatening to derail any chance at reconciliation. Vijay steps into the breach once more, determined to rescue Shanta and to bring justice to those who have wronged his family. In the climactic confrontation, Vijay defeats Sangliyana in a brutal confrontation, and in the aftermath, Jaya Chandra is wounded yet fulfills a symbolic act by giving Shanta a new token of legitimacy—marking her with his own blood, a gesture that carries the weight of reconciliation and the restoration of dignity.

The revelations lead Rajeswari Devi to a moment of hard-hitting recognition: she apologizes for the harm she caused, acknowledging the wrongs done to Shanta, Lakshmi, and the family’s legacy. The village begins to heal as old wounds are laid bare and new commitments are forged.
