Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy star as a comic duo who toil in a bustling horn factory, where the constant noise gnaws at Ollie’s nerves and feeds the volatile mood of the workshop. The relentless din and the teammates’ shaky bravado push Ollie toward frequent, brittle breakages, setting a tone of simmering tension. When Ollie’s growing hornophobia finally flares up, he’s sent home from work, a move that sparks Stan to devise a lighthearted plan to ease his friend’s anxiety.

Stan’s idea is a therapeutic day on the water—a boat trip meant to calm nerves and restore balance. But the idyll is quickly upended: a gas explosion rocks their kitchen, courtesy of a cross-eyed plumber Ben Turpin who bungles the gas and water pipes. Undeterred, the two set off aboard the ill-fated Prickly Heat, a vessel that becomes a floating stage for misadventure. On board they unexpectedly cross paths with an escaped convict Nick Grainger, who seizes control of the situation, while a goat brought along by the pair harmlessly adds to the chaos by somehow setting the boat adrift.

The crisis escalates as Ollie’s tempers flare when Nick asserts dominance, yet Stan’s trombone becomes a surprising catalyst: the music jolts Ollie into a surge of adrenaline, making him momentarily forget his fear of Nick and sparking a clumsy but climactic confrontation. Ollie muscles Nick into submission, and for a moment it seems the duo might outwit trouble with a musical cue. However, the arrival of the police in a patrol boat shifts the scene from rescue to capture. Stan tries to explain to the officers that the trombone was the key to turning the tide, but the plan misfires, driving Ollie into a frenzy that leads him to lash out at the officers.

In the end, the comic misadventure folds back into trouble: Stan and Ollie, along with Nick Grainger, find themselves under arrest, a twist that caps a day filled with noise, chaos, and slapstick that only deepens their legendary partnership.
