Stan, Stan Laurel and Ollie, Oliver Hardy, are unexpectedly reunited with their long-lost twin brothers, Alf and Bert, whose supposed demise is revealed by a photograph tucked inside a letter. Alf and Bert, now sailors aboard the SS Periwinkle, dock in the same harbor as Stan and Ollie’s home, accompanied by their wives, Daphne Pollard as Daphne and Betty Brown as Betty.

Aboard the ship, Alf and Bert encounter Finn, James Finlayson as Finn, the ship’s wily chief engineer, who tempts them with the prospect of easy wealth. They entrust their earnings to Finn for safekeeping, but he refuses to return their wages. Matters escalate as they unwittingly pawn a valuable ring entrusted to them by the ship’s captain, Sidney Toler as Captain, exacerbating their financial predicament.

Meanwhile, Stan and Ollie, along with their wives, find themselves entangled in a string of misunderstandings sparked by Alf and Bert’s impulsive actions. They end up shouldering Alf and Bert’s debts and crossing paths with Finn, which leads to threats and potential revenge.

Alf and Bert’s misadventures lead to their arrest, while Stan and Ollie fall prey to mafia extortionists seeking the missing ring. The four of them converge at the waterfront, where the ring is found and a lively altercation ends with all four tumbling into the water.

After the splashy climax, the twins reconcile and attempt to clear things up with their spouses, but their plan to set things straight only invites further blunders, ending once again with a splash as everyone slips into the water.
