Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Bruno Ganz, grows up in an aristocratic French family but follows a restless dream toward the open sky, choosing to become a pilot rather than a conventional path. He leaves home to take a job flying airmail overseas, driven by a desire to test himself among the clouds and to push the limits of what is possible.

He marries beautiful Consuelo, Miranda Richardson, and they settle into a home in Casablanca, hoping to build a life together amid the hum of propellers and the promise of distant horizons. Yet the constant strain of his dangerous flights begins to erode their bond, and Consuelo ultimately leaves for Paris. Antoine follows, and the couple tries to repair what time and peril have worn thin. Even as they reconcile, his devotion to flying remains unyielding, a stubborn creed that nearly costs him his life when he crashes while attempting to break the Paris–Saigon air record.

As the 1930s draw to a close, Antoine emerges not only as a celebrated airmail pilot who flies across Europe, Africa, and South America, but also as a writer. His most famous work, The Little Prince, begins to take shape in the margins of a life spent chasing distant stars and distant stories, blending precision with a poet’s wonder.

With the outbreak of World War II, Antoine answers the call to duty by joining the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air). After France falls, he continues his service with the Free French Air Force in North Africa, turning his wartime experiences into a new kind of courage and resilience. In July 1944, while piloting a Lockheed P-38 Lightning on a reconnaissance mission over the Mediterranean, Antoine disappears, leaving behind a legacy defined by daring flights, enduring love, and a lifetime of imaginative achievement.
