Audrey Camuzet Anaïs Demoustier is a university student in Paris who works nights as a hotel maid, a role that places her close to a revolving door of guests and stories. The hotel hosts Gary Newman Josh Charles, an American businessman from Silicon Valley, who is staying after a high-stakes meeting. That night, Gary struggles to sleep and suffers a sudden panic attack; by morning he has chosen a drastic path, staying in his room and missing a Dubai flight that was supposed to launch a new chapter in his life. He resolves to quit his job, divorce his wife Elizabeth, leave his family, and stay in the hotel indefinitely, turning away from the world he once knew.

Audrey curiously cleans his room, surprised to find that Gary has not departed as expected. As she goes about her tasks, a city-wide electrical blackout hits the hotel, plunging corridors into darkness and changing the mood of every interaction she overhears. On the roof, she encounters a fantastical shift: she transforms into a sparrow, a tiny, shimmering creature with a fresh perspective on the world that surrounds her. In this new form, she learns to glide down to the ground, listening in on conversations and quietly observing the lives playing out in the rooms around the hotel. She tests her new ability by exploring, watching from corners, and peeking into various hotel rooms to glimpse the private moments people try to keep hidden.

After checking on Gary to see what he’s experiencing in this suspended reality, Audrey returns to the hotel roof, where the ability to revert to her human form remains elusive. The following night, she follows Simon, a coworker, in his car to a park where he sleeps, perhaps to escape the pressures of his own life or to find a moment of quiet. Her flight and stealth are tested as she evades a cat and an owl, creatures that challenge her fledgling survival instincts. She makes her way back to the roof, where she re-enters human form by morning, waking up in her ordinary life once again.

The peculiar events shift into a near-ordinary moment when Audrey crosses paths with Gary as he checks out of the hotel. Their brief elevator encounter becomes a charged, telling exchange that leaves both of them aware of the strange thread that connected them during the strange night of the blackout. The film quietly juxtaposes the mundane rhythms of hotel life with a fantastical transformation, inviting audiences to reflect on themes of escape, personal choice, and the strange ways in which ordinary people can become part of someone else’s extraordinary night.
