At the funeral itself, Haynes [Jack Fortune], a director of the private military company that Fergus and Frankie once worked for, delivers a eulogy that elevates Frankie while casting military contractors as indispensable, almost heroic figures. The words land with a hollow echo for Fergus, who watches as the two men later attempt to explain the circumstances of Frankie’s death to his family, a scene that only deepens Fergus’s growing suspicion and bitterness toward them. Later, at the wake, Fergus makes a bold, impulsive move: he attacks Haynes when he sees him handing out his business cards to enlisted soldiers, a confrontation that lays bare the tensions between loyalty, memory, and accountability. The emotional tremor of the day is heightened when Marisol [Najwa Nimri] bequeaths a package to Fergus, entrusted to a mutual friend with a clear instruction that it must reach him. This mysterious delivery becomes a thread that pulls Fergus toward a hidden chapter of Frankie’s life, something he had never fully understood. With the help of Harim [Talib Hamafraj], an Iraqi musician, Fergus gains access to a video on a phone that reveals a disturbing act: a member of Frankie’s team killing an innocent Iraqi family a few weeks before Frankie’s death, a revelation that shatters any neat, official explanation of the events.

As Fergus processes this evidence, he grows increasingly suspicious and commissions friends who still have ties to the firm in Iraq to investigate the incident further. Yet, as the investigation unfolds, the record remains incomplete, leaving a gap that seems to demand closer scrutiny and accountability. The film moves through these layers of grief, doubt, and the moral ambiguity of those involved in war-for-hire work, asking whether truth can ever be fully recovered from the shadows cast by money, loyalty, and violence.
