Red Hill 2010

Shane Cooper, played by Ryan Kwanten, is a young police officer who moves to the quaint town of Red Hill with his expectant wife to build a new life. On his very first day on duty, he feels the cold shoulder from Old Bill, portrayed by Steve Bisley, the head of the local police force. Bill’s scorn stems from Shane’s struggles with his firearm, particularly after a traumatic incident where he hesitated to shoot an armed young boy, resulting in Shane being injured while on duty.

As Shane embarks on his first assignment, the town learns of an imminent threat: Jimmy Conway, a notorious convicted murderer and former prisoner whom Bill had previously arrested for the death of his wife, has escaped and is expected to return to town for vengeance. In a move fueled by fear and aggression, Old Bill instructs his officers and a group of civilians to arm themselves and take a shoot-on-sight approach against Jimmy.

However, the so-called protection from Bill’s men proves futile as they are easily overwhelmed by Jimmy’s ruthless determination. In a surprising twist, when Jimmy encounters Shane, he spares his life. This act of mercy leads Shane to confront Old Bill, where he discovers that Bill has refused to call for backup from nearby towns, and he finds himself once again unable to use his weapon, falling victim to Old Bill’s strength and ending up handcuffed to a table.

After managing to escape, Shane utilizes an emergency radio to call for assistance and learns from a local farmer that Jimmy is not the villain he was thought to be. In a devastating revelation, Shane discovers that Old Bill and his accomplices are the real murderers, having set Jimmy’s house ablaze and killing his wife in the process. The farmer shares with Shane a critical written document before taking his own life, leaving Shane with the burden of this newfound truth.

Equipped with knowledge and determination, Shane returns home to retrieve his weapon, knowing his wife had found it earlier during his shift. Meanwhile, Old Bill employs a desperate tactic, igniting stacks of hay to lure Jimmy. When Jimmy arrives, a bloody confrontation ensues, leading to the destruction of Bill’s last officers. In a chaotic twist of fate, Shane arrives at the scene just in time to save Jimmy by shooting Old Bill’s accomplices and revealing the truth to Bill.

As police reinforcements surround the area, Shane desperately tries to persuade Jimmy to drop his weapon. In the climactic aftermath of seeking justice, Jimmy exacts his revenge on Old Bill but is immediately shot by the police. In his final moments, Jimmy reveals a heart-wrenching truth to Shane: his wife was also expecting a child.
