Spoilers ahead
In the oppressive heat of 1936, the esteemed American archaeologist Indiana Jones stumbles upon a treasure trove of mysteries while retrieving the Golden Idol from a perilously booby-trapped temple in Peru. However, his fleeting moment of success is quickly overshadowed when the cunning rival archaeologist René Belloq confronts him and absconds with the idol, forcing Jones to make a hair-raising escape aboard a waiting float plane. Back in the United States, he is called upon by two Army Intelligence agents, who update him on a nefarious scheme unraveling in Tanis, Egypt. Nazi forces have begun excavating the site, in search of the legendary Ark of the Covenant, a relic believed to endow its possessor with unprecedented power on the battlefield.
