Oliver and the Artful Dodger 1972

Set in 1860 London, the tale follows a grieving young Oliver Twist Gary Marsh as, in his final moments, Mr. Brownlow John Stephenson reveals that a will leaving the entire estate to Oliver is hidden in a secret drawer within his bedroom furniture. The old man dies before naming the drawer’s exact location, and Oliver, overwhelmed by grief, flees the house. Wandering the streets, Oliver encounters his old ally, the Artful Dodger Michael Bell, who has since reformed and now works as a costermonger to support a group of orphans saved from Mr. Bumble Ronald Long’s workhouse. The Dodger’s transformation offers a glimmer of hope, and he volunteers to help Oliver navigate the danger and confusion that followed the will’s disappearance. Together they track down the furniture dealer who completed the sale of Brownlow’s estate and uncover that the furniture—along with the will—was sold to a man named Master Dreadly Bernard Fox to furnish his country manor. The revelation tightens the hunt and broadens the stakes, since the will’s authenticity and Oliver’s rightful claim hang in the balance. The journey ahead becomes a test of patience and perseverance as they chase a fragile thread through a city that has little faith in orphans and little tolerance for schemes that challenge established wealth.

With the path to the will now traced to Master Dreadly, the pair decide to travel to the manor on foot to retrieve what could be Oliver’s fortune. But they are not alone in their pursuit: they’re followed by Sam ‘Snipe’ Sniperley Richard Dawson, whose plan is to destroy the will to secure his own claim.
