Kunjoonjamma Thomas (played by Padmini) is a widow who spends her days alone in a small village. People often tease her because she comes off as grumpy and weighed down by grief—from the loss of her husband and her only child. The sound of children laughing and ringing her doorbell would quickly turn into a sour reminder of what she has lost, and she responds with a mix of irritation and withdrawal. Yet life begins to soften when a visitor arrives: her granddaughter, Girly (played by Nadhiya). Although Kunjoonjamma doesn’t warm to Girly at first, the two gradually build a fragile, tender bond. In a symbolic gesture of the new closeness, Kunjoonjamma removes the doorbell, telling Girly that its only purpose was for Girly’s return—now that she’s there, the bell isn’t needed.

Nearby, Sreekumar (played by [Mohanlal])—Kunjoonjamma’s neighbor—finds himself drawn to Girly. Sreekumar discovers a photograph of himself in Girly’s room while he’s packing her things for Delhi, a quiet indicator that his feelings may have been returned in kind. The film’s climax takes a poignant turn, with Kunjoonjamma’s actions signaling a final, fraught attempt to protect what she values most. In a desperate moment, she medicates the situation with sleeping pills in a soup, and Girly is placed under the care that will take her back to Delhi for treatment, though she remains unconscious for the journey.
