On a bus carrying a group of Malayali tourists back from the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Velankanni, Tamil Nadu, the homeward ride takes an uncanny turn when the tour leader, James, halts the vehicle in a remote Tamil village. He steps away from the group, wanders through the lanes, and steps into a house where he begins to act as if he belongs—a local family member, speaking in Tamil and adopting the rhythms of village life. An elderly, blind woman in the home seems to recognize him, responding to his voice and mannerisms as if he were her lost son.

When the rest of the tourists realize James is missing, they set out to search for him, only to be confronted with a startling revelation: he has taken on the character, mannerisms, and language of Sundaram, a member of that family who had vanished two years earlier. The family, and even some villagers, start to believe that Sundaram has somehow been reincarnated in James, a phenomenon that blurs the lines between memory, identity, and belief in a world where legend and reality intersect.

As James tries to navigate this strange identity, confusion deepens. People refuse to accept him as Sundaram, and he himself struggles to recognize the village that has seemingly changed in his absence. He encounters a temple that did not exist when Sundaram disappeared, and even the unmistakable moment of seeing his own face reflected in a barber’s mirror shocks him into confronting the possibility that his current self might be more than a simple disguise.

Back in Kerala, James’ real family and friends converge with a plan to bring him back home and seek help for what they fear is a mental health crisis. Their approach is clinical and urgent: they intend to sedate him after his afternoon nap and transport him to safety. The plan is to restore his true self, but the moment of awakening folds the question back into doubt. After he wakes, James seems to reclaim his original identity and agrees, willingly, to return with his loved ones to the bus for the journey back.

The conclusion remains deliberately open. The film leaves it to the audience to decide whether the entire sequence of Sundaram-like episodes was a vivid dream, a transient dreamscape on the bus that never fully resolved, or a real, inexplicable phenomenon that challenges the boundaries between life, memory, and hallucination. The ambiguity invites thoughtful reflection on how identity can be shaped by place, language, and belief, and how easily a person can be caught between two worlds—the one they inhabit and the one that recognizes them only in pieces.
